Smartypants
I went shopping today.
After months of horrible pants drought I thought that the onset of Fall would mean that I could find some actual pants.
I was somewhat mistaken.
I found a few pairs – but I really had to hunt through the miles and miles of gauchos.
Gauchos?
Really? Is that what we’re going to get behind this year? Short pants that make you look unnecessarily wide or short or both? This is even more stupid than the poncho.
And paired with the cowboy boot – you’re just asking to be stomped on by the Fugly girls.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Gauchos.
Honestly.

There
Sometimes I put Sofia in her home-made yellow poncho with pom-poms on it and it looks adorable on her...But she absolutely hates the friggin thing.
That's my girl!
I used to wear a poncho AND cowboy boots, especially while whaling on the ol guitarra and singing by the campfire... Sofia has not seen this yet, but she may have genetic memories of the horror...
Agreed on the gauchos! I saw some today while shopping and also thought the same thing. However, I compare the horror of them less to the poncho and more to the disappearance of any noticeable waistline on everything from jeans to skirts to office slacks. I guess they're supposed to fall at the lowest possible spot on your hips but that begs two major questions: 1. Why in God's name would you deliberately want to draw the eye to the WIDEST part of your body? Even the slimmest woman looks boxier and hippier in "hip huggers", and 2: It's nearly impossible to tuck and appropriate office blouse into slacks with that low-rise style. Think about it...the idea in low-rise is to show tummy, I guess, but tummy-showing is not appropriate in an office, therefore you must tuck a blouse in, but you can't tuck a blouse in to low-rise slacks!
Chicken or egg?
